BENJAMIM TAUBKIN'S PROFILE | MUSIC IN THE MCB

Musician and producer, Benjamim Taubkin started his piano studies at the age of 18 and soon started to dedicate himself entirely to this activity. Owner of an extensive career, he has acted on more than 150 albums and CDS, even launching several works in the same year.
Benjamim also composed several tracks for documentaries, among which: “Eu Maior”, “Cravos” and “Genesis”, educational material made in partnership with Sebastião Salgado. In parallel, he coordinated and programmed several initiatives in public and private institutions such as the State Department of Culture, Itaú Cultural, Bahia Cultural Market, SESC, among others.
He is currently responsible for the Núcleo Contemporâneo project – a hybrid of record label, producer and cultural center located in the city of São Paulo. Active since 1997, the Nucleus gave rise to different musical projects such as the Orquestra Popular de Câmara, the choro ensemble Moderna Tradição, the work with the traditional music group Clareira, the jazz quartet Trio + 1 and the collective América Contemporânea, which gathers musicians and repertoire from South American countries.
In addition to collaborating with musicians from several countries such as Morocco, South Korea, South Africa, India, Israel, Spain, Argentina and Colombia, Benjamim is also a member of the European Forum of World Music Festivals and of the Ibero-American Association for the Music Development.
Among the musician’s most recent projects are: “Fronteiras Imagárias”, with Colombian saxophonist Antonio Arnedo; “Sons de Sobrevivência”, with the duo Soukast; “O Pequeno Milagre de Cada Dia”, with João Taubkin and Israeli musician Itamar Doari, and the duos with Ivan Vilela, Adriano Adewale, Paulinho Santos and Rodrigo Bragança – with whom he recorded his last work, “flew over” (2020).

In 2017, Benjamim participated in two documentaries: the film “O Piano Que Conversa” – which portrays five musical meetings of the pianist in Brazil, Bolivia and South Korea – and “Música na Serrinha”, with the participation of 12 musicians from all over the world. the world, including: Marcos Suzano, Jaques Morelenbaum and Mayra Andrade. Both films were awarded at different festivals.
On the stage, the musician has performed regularly from the solo piano to the symphony orchestra at festivals in cultural centers in Brazil, Latin America, Canada, the United States, and Europe and the Middle East. He also held concerts and artistic residencies in Morocco, Austria, Korea, Venezuela and Argentina.
