Music on MCB | Xaxado Novo
The Museu da Casa Brasileira, institution of the Culture Secretariat, managed in partnership by the Government of the State of São Paulo and the Civil Society through A CASA museum of the Brazilian object, brings northeastern music on St. John’s Day, June 24, Sunday , at 11am, with the group Xaxado Novo in a special free presentation for the release of the CD “Xaxado Novo Ao Vivo”.
Formed in 2013, the group goes beyond sound and is characterized by regional costumes during the shows, between hats and vests that refer to caboclos, cowboys and cangaceiros. In 2016, the group released their first album, “Sertão Cigano”, with their own songs and re-readings.
Composed of musicians researchers of traditional cultures, the Xaxado Novo has influences of the history of diverse peoples, like the gypsies and Arabs, groups fomentadores of the northeastern music. In addition, there is the valorization of traditions by using instruments such as the fiddle, which spread throughout the Northeast in the eighteenth century, as well as souzafone, deaf samba and davul.

About the Music project at MCB
With continuous editions since 1999, the Music project at MCB has benefited more than 240 thousand people, who had free access to shows from groups such as Pau Brasil, Zimbo Trio, Fine Thing Project, Bachiana Jovem Orchestra, Grupo Aum, Mawaca and Traditional Jazz Band , among others. The presentations, which take place on stage set up on the terrace of the Museu da Casa Brasileira between March and December, currently gather around 400 spectators on average every Sunday.

The Museu da Casa Brasileira, an institution of the São Paulo State Department of Culture, is dedicated to the preservation and diffusion of the material culture of the Brazilian house, being the only museum in the country that specializes in architecture and design. The MCB program includes temporary and long-term exhibitions, with an agenda that also includes activities of the educational service, debates, lectures and publications contextualizing the museum’s vocation for the formation of a critical thinking in themes such as architecture, urbanism, housing, economy urban mobility and sustainability.
