Museu da Casa Brasileira launches a new edition of the playlist “Curadoria MCB” in honor of conductor Júlio Medaglia

The guest for this edition of the Curadoria MCB playlist is conductor Júlio Medaglia, an influential name with an extensive career in popular music and classical music.

For 30 years working at Rádio Cultura FM (São Paulo), Medaglia presents the daily program Fim de Tarde, in which he takes to the public excerpts from concerts and reflections on contemporary music. Currently, he also conducts the TV Cultura orchestra in the Prelúdio program, broadcast on national television and awarded as the “best cultural project on Brazilian TV” by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA).

For his work as a writer of books and articles on music, in 2009, Medaglia was elected to the No. 3 chair at the Academia Paulista de Letras, the same one that belonged to Mário de Andrade.

Recently Maestro Júlio Medaglia received a profile from the MCB in honor of his work.

PLAYLIST CURACIA MCB: MAESTRO JULIO MEDAGLIA

The playlist signed by Júlio Medaglia is the first selection dedicated exclusively to classical music. With about 40 compositions, the conductor’s nominations include some of the biggest names in classical music such as: Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Gioachino Rossini, Frédéric Chopin, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Johannes Brahms, Heitor Villa- wolves, among others.

One of the highlights of the playlist is “3 Gymnopedie”, a revolutionary work composed by Erik Satie and orchestrated by Claude Debussy that became the opening theme of the program Fim de Tarde.

“Erik Satie’s gymnopedie is the mother of a new era. In the midst of romantic pathos, still with Tchaikowsky and Mahler writing works for tons of excessively romantic sounds, Erik Satie arrives with 10 grams of sounds, two repetitive dissonant chords and an introspective melody for the time, which led Debussy to change course in life and create a new musical concept ”.

In addition to the MCB Curatorship playlist: conductor Júlio Medaglia, the MCB Spotify features playlists: MCB Curatorship: Carmelita de Moraes, Music at the MCB, A Casa Brasileira Nas Ondas do Rádio and the thematic playlists of the Casas do Sertão project, carried out by Educativo MCB.
