MUSIC ON MCB | Hércules Gomes

To honor the 170-year history of Chiquinha Gonzaga (1847-1935), the pianist and composer Hércules Gomes launches the album “No tempo da Chiquinha” at the Museu da Casa Brasileira, institution of the Culture Secretariat of the State of São Paulo, on the day June 17, Sunday, at 11:00 AM, with free admission.

In this project, to perform the compositions of Chiquinha with modern arrangements, but without losing the real essence of choro, Hércules Gomes counts on the participation of flutist Rodrigo Y Castro, singer Vanessa Moreno and guest pianist Daniel Grajew.

Currently, Hercules is considered one of the greatest Brazilian pianists for his technique and also for his trajectory. He began his studies as a self-taught at age 13, attended the Escola de Música do Espírito Santo (formerly EMES) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Popular Music at UNICAMP. In 2013, he released his first solo work entitled “Pianismo”. In addition, he performed at music festivals in Brazil and abroad.

Six years ago, on October 17, Chiquinha’s birthday, the “Brazilian Popular Music Day” was celebrated. The composer is considered a symbol: besides having fought in diverse social causes of the time, was the first woman to rule an orchestra in Brazil.

About the Music project at MCB
With continuous editions since 1999, the Music project at MCB has benefited more than 240 thousand people, who had free access to shows from groups such as Pau Brasil, Zimbo Trio, Fine Thing Project, Bachiana Jovem Orchestra, Grupo Aum, Mawaca and Traditional Jazz Band , among others. The presentations, which take place on stage set up on the terrace of the Casa Brasileira Museum between March and December, currently gather around 400 spectators on average every Sunday.

The Museu da Casa Brasileira, an institution of the São Paulo State Department of Culture, is dedicated to the preservation and diffusion of the material culture of the Brazilian house, being the only museum in the country that specializes in architecture and design.
