BOOK RELEASE | Movido pela Mente
The story of Ricky Ribeiro, a young man who dedicated his life to physical activity until he was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), and his experience around the world with urban mobility, are the subject of Gisele Mirabai’s book Moved for the Mind, which will be released at the Museu da Casa Brasileira (MCB), an institution of the Culture Secretariat of the State of São Paulo, on December 4, Monday, starting at 6:00 pm, with free admission.
The publication, elaborated in nine months, narrates the trajectory of freedom and movement of Ricky Ribeiro, of the discovery of the ALS to his unique form of overcoming. “I realized that we could tell Ricky’s trajectory not only chronologically, but from the means of transportation that guided his life, starting from the walk, passing vehicles such as boat, train, bus and subway, among other means of locomotion,” explains the author.
According to Ricky, the reports and reflections that served as raw material for Gisele Mirabai were an exercise in self-knowledge and rescue of good memories of the past. “My story is background to tackling much more important issues such as sustainability, urban mobility and accessibility. It was an enriching opportunity to take stock of my life and everything I value, “says the character of the play.
Today, from the bed, with just the eyes, Ricky Ribeiro coordinates Mobilize Brasil, a non-profit organization that works with urban mobility, urbanism and culture, striving for its own immobility to improve the way other people move.
The book ‘Movido pela Mente’ brings more than 300 pages and the income from sales will be reverted to the organization Mobilize Brazil.

The book ‘Movido pela Mente’ brings to the public the story of a young man who has lost all his movements, but struggles and works with enthusiasm to improve urban mobility in Brazilian cities. The publication also describes sustainable urban mobility and the experiences of its character with trains, buses, subways, boats, motorcycles, automobiles, bicycles and many walks in unusual places, like Japaratinga, in Alagoas; Paramaribo, in Suriname; Corfu, Greece; or well-known cities such as Paris, Toronto, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Venice, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and São Paulo.
About Gisele Mirabai
Gisele Mirabai is a writer and screenwriter of cinema and TV. Studied Performing Arts at UFMG, Cinema at the London Film Academy and postgraduate in Literature from UFF. He has five books published, among them Machamba, winner of the 1st Kindle Literature Prize, Guerres de Gaia, children and youth adopted by several schools in Brazil, and Hombre Livre, a non-fiction book about a bicycle tour around the world.

Luiz Henrique da Cruz Ribeiro holds a degree in Public Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV-EAESP), a Master’s degree in Sustainability from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and an Executive MBA from the University of Barcelona (UB). He is the founder of OSCIP Associação Abaporu, of the Mobilize Brasil portal and a member of the Corporate Sustainability team of EY. Diagnosed in 2008 with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), he lost all body movements. Today, he works and communicates through an optical reader. www.mobilize.org.br
About the Brazilian House Museum
