Over seven years, photographer Marcos Freire made 990 visits to 94 of the 96 sub-districts of the city of São Paulo, producing 20,000 photos that bring a unique look at the territory of São Paulo. According to Didiana Prata, the public saw images that reveal something unprecedented about living in São Paulo. “The photos have a poetic, lyrical bias that form unique visual narratives, connected from different elements of the urban landscape”, commented the curator.

According to Giancarlo Latorraca, technical director of the MCB, the exhibition brought a broad and important record on the way of living for a good part of the population of São Paulo. “With his attentive and meticulous gaze, Marcos Freire captured traces of everyday life printed in the interiors of the houses, with their various environments and objects and, in the common space of the surroundings, immersed in the large peripheral urban mass,” said Latorraca.
Exhibition Assembly
The exhibition also presented the diversity of the territory of São Paulo from the plots constituted by triptychs of images. The spectator had a more poetic look at the signs and materialities of these dwellings: facade finishes, interior decoration of houses, colors.
The exhibition was contemplated and carried out through the ProAC notice 10-2019 – Unpublished exhibitions of visual arts.
