On display from March 12th to May 15th, 2016.
From March 12th to May 15th, the Museu da Casa Brasileira presented the exhibition Marginais Heróis, conceived by graphic artist and designer Rico Lins. With the motto “Seja Marginal Seja Herói”, a tribute to the work “Bandeira-Poema” by artist Hélio Oiticica, the exhibition proposes to investigate visual languages, the use of hybrid technologies and actions to preserve the Brazilian graphic heritage.

Presented for the first time in São Paulo, the exhibition took place in harmony with the Poster Contest, the first stage of the 30th edition of the MCB Design Award, reinforcing the Museum’s continuous effort to rescue the poster’s importance as a centerpiece in publicity campaigns. In this context, as part of a set of initiatives that promote reflection on national graphic production, its identity and memory, the MCB presented the Expressão em Poster workshop, with Rico Lins, on March 19, at 10 am.

“Quick, cheap and disposable, typographic posters heroically resist their marginality. On the margins of the production system, the graphic industry, urban legislation, design, art, the market, they stubbornly and effectively challenge technology, culture and aesthetics”, said Rico Lins.
Exposed Posters
Displaced from the urban environment and deprived of its primary function of immediate or commercial information, the series of works that make up the exhibition at the same time obeys and subverts some procedures arising from engraving, painting, design, monotype. Produced in series, each one is, however, a unique piece that, despite the project planning, has a random, empirical, unpredictable result. Marginais Heróis brought together 40 posters of personalities such as Zé do Caixão, Chacrinha, James Dean, Maria Bonita, Nelson Rodrigues, Chico Science, among others.

Initially conceived as an integral part of the exhibition “From the Margin to the Edge”, inaugurated at Somerset House in London, where it remained between July and September 2012, the exhibition had presentations in Buenos Aires and Berlin, in 2013. In Brazil, it was mounted for the first time in a selection of 25 works at Galeria Amparo 60, in Recife (2015), followed by the Museu Nacional da República, in Brasília (2015), where he was part of the exhibition “GráficosRCA: 50 anos e Além”.
