On display from August to October 2018.

To present the work of the Swiss office atelier oï, the Museum of the Brazilian House, an institution of the State Culture Secretariat, managed by Civil Society through The House Museum of Brazilian Arts and Artifacts, opened on August 25, 2018, Saturday at 2 pm, with free admission, the exhibition ‘Indústria Artesanal – atelier oï’ curated by Albrecht Bangert, specialized in design and architecture exhibitions.

Held following the retrospective of the 27 years of the atelier oï, recently shown at the Museum Fur Gestaltung, in Zurich, the new MCB show brought a picture of technical possibilities and the use of materials in the design of successful products as responses to demands from a wide range global and luxury market penetration.

The partners of the Swiss office, Aurel Aebi, Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond, work for several brands known worldwide in the field of design, from product design, interior architecture, scenography, to architecture. Created in 1991, the atelier oï achieved greater recognition by creating a coat rack, which sold more than four million units and also after participating in the Swiss national show Arteplage Neuchatel Expo.02, in 2002.

Check records of the opening of the show:

Technical knowledge, associated with experimentation and material handling, is visible in the partnership established three years ago, with Gifu Prefecture, Japan, a region of ancestral traditions and a center for Japanese artisans. The office redesigned products based on the techniques historically used in art for the manufacture and use of paper, wood, metal for cutlery and traditional ceramics. Another example is the “Nomadic objects” series, in which the manual work carried out with leather straps allowed the design of new pieces that rescue the brand’s memory through elements reused from the traditional production process.

The exhibition marks a chapter of an experimental nature that is relevant in the world of contemporary architecture and design. The Museum will present to the public these existing paths in the production of objects, made with creative freedom and technical perfection, combining high-tech manufacturing and the knowledge of manual work ”, commented Giancarlo Latorraca, technical director of MCB.
