The ‘Museu da Casa Brasileira‘ in June 2018 inaugurated the exhibition ‘Experiencing Le Corbusier – Contemporary interpretations of modernism’.
Curated by Pierre Colnet and Hadrien Lelong, from Cremme – Editora de Móveis, via Instituto Cremme, an association that is committed to acting in the social, educational and artistic spheres through the promotion of activities to promote culture, the exhibition permeated the thinking of Le Corbusier beyond the perimeter of architecture.

The exhibition presented a reflection on modernism in Brazil and on the work of the French-Swiss architect. The intention of the Brazilian artists, designers and architects invited to participate in the exhibition was to keep alive the modern and revolutionary thought of Le Corbusier.
A conversation between awarded São Paulo architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha (1928 – 2021) and Catherine Otondo inspired Alexandre Benoit’s illustrations. Notions such as symmetry, perspective, movement and composition were addressed in the works of artists Carla Chaim, Lucas Simões and Ivan Padovani. Pieces from the Oficina de Carcenaria created in partnership with Instituto Leo were exhibited, which proposed a reinterpretation of modernism through the design of furniture inspired by the works of Le Corbusier. The Campana Brothers completed the group of designers, occupying the Museum’s garden with the Taquara installation.

The curators also invited a team of Brazilian offices formed by Aleph Zero, AR Arquitetura, Bloco Arquitetos, FGMF, Gabriel Ranieri, Pedro Ribeiro, Estudio Guto Requena, Metro Arquitetos Associados, MNMA Studio, Nitsche Arquitetos, Play Arquitetura, Terra e Tuma, and Triptyque Architecture to reflect how the modernist process reverberates in the national territory and within the work environment itself. The article by French philosopher Mickaël Labbé, made especially for the exhibition, supported the work of the architects in the exhibition.

Le Corbusier
Charles Edouard Jeanneret-Gris, known worldwide as Le Corbusier, was a French-Swiss architect who became one of the most important figures in 20th century architecture. He developed extensive academic and theoretical activity, in addition to publishing several articles on his architectural studies. He was a great influencer in the formation of the modernist generation of Brazilian architects, mainly because, in 1936, he was a consultant on the project for the Gustavo Capanema Palace. Le Corbusier died in 1965 and was buried in the tomb he designed for himself.
