Exhibition | Desenhando a cidade: Neco Stickel
On display from November 25, 2017 to February 18, 2018.
The Museu da Casa Brasileira, an institution of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture, inaugurates on November 25, Saturday, at 2:00 pm, the exhibition ‘Drawing the City: Neco Stickel’.
Known among architects for collaborating in the development of drawings in perspective for presentation of projects of the most diverse offices, especially in São Paulo, Neco Stickel says that several of his works were not built. “I have spent most of these 40 years doing prospects directly with architects in preliminary studies, very different from what was done. Today, I practically only work on the works with detailed 100% finished, “he says, about the images that will be exposed in the MCB until January 21, 2018.
Revealing the procedural aspect of the drawings by hand, more than 70 pencil drawings in paper and Albanian paper, from 1972 to 2016, will be presented without frame, on commercial perspectives and buildings built in the city of São Paulo.
“In addition to the memory of this recent history of architectural production that built or idealized our cities, Neco gathered a collection of modern architecture designs that he developed by choosing his favorite works for the show,” explains Giancarlo Latorraca, technical director of MCB.
The exhibition ‘Drawing the City: Neco Stickel’ also features 42 color pencil images on butter paper, drawn between 2014 and 2016, which depict iconic Brazilian works by architects such as Oscar Niemeyer, Affonso Eduardo Reidy, Lina Bo Bardi, Artacho Jurado, Jorge Zalszupin and Paulo Mendes da Rocha.
An installation with perspectives of projects conceived by Neco, in addition to two enlargements, the design of a building in Av. Paulista designed by Cabeza Sastre Assessoria e Projetos and another one of The Skylon, Festival of Britain, 1951, in London, complete the exhibition.
About Neco Stickel
Neco Stickel is an illustrator, designer and aeronautical designer. Graduated in Civil Engineering, he acted as an architect and developed skills as a draftsman with an emphasis on flying objects and aerodynamic studies. The MCB Design Prize in the Furniture category was highlighted by the following products: Chaise Longue Concreta – 1st place (10th Edition, 1996); Mistral – 1st place (8th Edition, 1994); Pearl Harbor Table – Honorable Mention (5th Edition, 1990); Armchair Tripod – Honorable Mention (4th Edition, 1989).
About ‘Drawing the City’
Started in 2016 by the MCB, the series of exhibitions ‘Drawing the City’ aims to present the variety of records of São Paulo from the look of artists, architects and designers, who observe and analyze the city. The proposal is to offer the public an expressive diversity of readings, expanding the repertoire on the rich urban complexity of the country’s largest metropolis. With this edition, the Museum presents an already historical, albeit recent, memory of projects executed or idealized for the city.
