#EXPOSITIONSMCB

On display from February 1st to March 19th, 2017.

The Museu da Casa Brasileira presented the exhibition on one of the most important Portuguese architects of our time: João Luís Carrilho da Graça, whose name appears alongside greats like Álvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura. Carrilho da Graça has the peculiarity of prioritizing the territory and its topography as the support of his works, and this was the main focus of the exhibition Carrilho da Graça: Lisbon.

More than a location – the city of Lisbon – or a chronology, the selected works showed how the architect thinks about his projects based on his “territory theory”, which relates the influence of topography to human paths and its constructions.

The exhibition brought a unique opportunity to get to know the architect’s work, with both built and non-built projects in the Portuguese capital, from some that are better known, such as the Escola Superior de Comunicação Social (1987-1993), and others less published, such as the plan. strategic in the Valis program (Valorização de Lisboa), and its projects that competed for the pavilions of Portugal at Expo’98.

Curated by Susana Rato, architect and collaborator at the Carrilho da Graça office, and Marta Sequeira, professor and researcher at the University of Évora.

The opening event in 2017 was attended by Carrilho da Graça, who gave a lecture about his projects and his way of working.
