The MCB Design Award is recognized throughout Brazil for being a hotbed of talent and recognition of professionals. The purpose of the award is to annually provide an overview of Brazilian production in categories that cover product design and written, academic and editorial works linked to the market.

In 2017, the Design Award received 587 works, which were judged by two independent commissions. Under the coordination of Marcelo Oliveira, PhD in Architecture and Urbanism, the following product categories were analyzed: Construction, Transport, Electronics, Lighting, Furniture, Textiles and Utensils. The Written Works category was coordinated by Cibele Taralli, Ph.D. in Urban Environmental Structures, and Milene Soares Cara, Ph.D. in Architecture and Urbanism.

About MCB
The Museu da Casa Brasileira, an institution of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020, is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the material culture of the Brazilian house, being the only museum in the country specializing in architecture and design. The MCB’s program includes temporary and long-term exhibitions, with an agenda that also includes educational service activities, debates, lectures and publications contextualizing the museum’s vocation for the formation of critical thinking on themes such as architecture, urbanism, housing, economy creative, urban mobility and sustainability.
