The MCB Design Award is the most traditional and prestigious design award in Brazil. Held by the institution since 1986, the Award has a history that reflects the trajectory of the consolidation of the national design identity.
The 2016 edition, which celebrated the 30th edition of the Award, received 640 entries and included winners in the Construction, Electronics, Lighting, Furniture, Textiles, Transport, Utensils and Written Work categories.

A granary of talents and a podium for the consecration of professionals, the MCB Design Award annually draws an overview of contemporary Brazilian production in categories that cover product design and written, academic and editorial production linked to the segment.
Big names in the sector have already been revealed and/or consecrated by the initiative, such as the icon of national architecture and urbanism Paulo Mendes da Rocha, who won the first edition of the award, in 1986, with his Poltrona Paulistana.

As part of the celebration of the 30th Prize, the MCB Design Prize Book (1986-2016) was launched, written by Chico Homem de Melo, Marcos da Costa Braga and Maria Cecilia Loschiavo, which reflects on the trajectory of the Prize and Brazilian design in these 30 years old.
In addition, the Pioneiros do Design Brasileiro series, which accompanies the Award, paid tribute to the work of Anísio Campos, a designer who created more than 15 automobiles between 1960 and 1990.

On the same date, the opening of the Coleção MCB – Novas Doações exhibition was held.
About MCB
The Museu da Casa Brasileira, an institution of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020, is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the material culture of the Brazilian house, being the only museum in the country specializing in architecture and design. The MCB’s program includes temporary and long-term exhibitions, with an agenda that also includes educational service activities, debates, lectures and publications contextualizing the museum’s vocation for the formation of critical thinking on themes such as architecture, urbanism, housing, economy creative, urban mobility and sustainability.
