VIRTUAL TALK WHEEL | LEADERSHIP AND GENDER IN ARCHITECTURE: ACHIEVEMENTS AND CHALLENGES
In celebration of the month of women, the Museu da Casa Brasileira – an institution of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo – will promote a virtual conversation circle on March 9 (Tuesday), starting at 5 pm, with live and interactive streaming on YouTube. The debate, held in partnership with the magazine ArqXP, will be guided by the theme: “Leadership and gender in architecture: achievements and challenges”.
With the participation of: Nádia Somekh, president of the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Brazil (CAU / BR); Maria Elisa Baptista, president of the National Directorate of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB); Angélica Benatti Alvim, director of FAU Mackenzie and mediation by Gustavo Curcio (FAUUSP / ArqXP), the virtual event will address issues such as command responsibility, process rationalization and gender diversity as an essential factor for management in leadership positions, especially, in the architecture job market.
“The conversation circle aims to promote reflection on the meaning of the date and to highlight the female achievements in the struggle for equality and opportunities in the job market, particularly in architecture”, comments Miriam Lerner, general director of MCB.

About Angélica Benatti Alvim
Architect and urban planner (1986), master and doctor in Architecture and Urbanism (FAUUSP, 1996; 2003); full professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, where since 2016 she has held the position of Director. She is a permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism. She was general coordinator of Stricto Sensu Graduate Studies at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (2013-2016), coordinator of the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at FAU-Mackenzie (2010-2013). She was president of the National Association of Research and Graduate Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (ANPARQ) -management 2015/2016; and recently chaired the ANPARQ 2020 Award. CNPq Research Productivity Scholarship Level 2. Organized the books Evaluation of Urban Policies: context and perspectives, in partnership with Luiz Guilherme Rivera de Castro (Publishers Mackpesquisa and Romano Guerra, 2010); UN- Habitat: from declarations to commitments (Romano Guerra, 2010) and Mackenzie Architecture 100 years; FAU Mackenzie 70 years. About Maria Elisa Baptista
Architect and urban planner, Master in Architecture and Urbanism from UFMG and PhD in Urbanism from UFRJ. Professor in the Department of Architecture and Urbanism at PUC Minas and current national president of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB).
About Nadia Somekh
Emeritus professor at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie; she was director of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (2005-2009) and coordinator of the structuring of the graduate program. She was an advisor to the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) and the International Union of Architects (UIA). She won the Academic Palm from the French government (2018) and is a visiting professor at the Institute of Urbanism in Paris / France. In the city of São Paulo, she chaired the Municipal Urbanization Company (Emurb) between 2002 and 2004; she was director of the Department of Historical Heritage and president of the Council for the Preservation of Historical, Cultural and Environmental Heritage (2013-2016). She is the author of the book “A Vertical City and Modernizing Urbanism”, among others, and co-organizer of the book “Bixiga in three times”. Current President of the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Brazil (CAU / BR) for the 2021-2023 triennium.
About Gustavo Curcio (mediator)
Architect, master and doctor in Design and Architecture, Gustavo is a professor and researcher in the Design Department at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo, where he develops research at undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of Magazine Design and Editorial Graphic Design (online and offline). He has a postdoctoral degree in Design and Architecture from FAUUSP and 15 years of experience in editorial, visual programming, art direction, photography direction and writing / advertising direction. He serves on the editorial board of the magazines Arquitetura e Urbanismo (ISSN 0102-8979) and Téchne (ISSN 0104-1053). He is a member of the scientific board of ArqXP | Innovative Experiences in Construction.
About ArqXP
ArqXP was born in 2019 with the aim of bringing students of Design and Architecture closer to innovative initiatives in the Brazilian and international markets. The digital platform ArqXP.com and the magazine ArqXP, both free and unrestricted access, have fulfilled the mission of spreading projects and ideas far beyond the walls of the university.
