The Design MCB Award, carried out by the Museu da Casa Brasileira, an institution of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo, extends the entries for the 2020 Poster Contest until April 17. Exceptionally for this edition, participants will not need to deliver their work at the Museum, the evaluation will be made by the judging commission in digital form.
This year, the Poster Contest proposes for the first time a theme for the elaboration of the works: ‘The social function of design’. With the extension of the registration date, interested parties will have more time to prepare the pieces. With the delivery of the printed poster canceled, participants must submit the artwork in static format (JPG) in the registration system itself. The release date of the result, which also changed, is scheduled for May 18. The 2020 Poster Contest is implementing these and other modifications for security measures and containment to the spread of Covid-19.
The competing posters will be analyzed digitally using the same criteria as the other editions of the contest: concept; clarity of communication; visual impact; originality; technical feasibility and ease of production.
Participation in the Poster Contest is open to all interested individuals: Brazilians or foreigners residing in the country for more than two years, professionals or students. The registration fee is R $ 54.00, and those who join the ‘Amigos do MCB’ program receive a 50% discount, the same benefit offered to students. It is worth mentioning that the discounts are not cumulative.
The author of the winning 2020 poster will receive an award in the gross amount of R $ 3,000.00 (three thousand reais); there may also be pieces chosen in second or third place, as well as honorable mentions, at the discretion of the jury, without, however, having a financial award for these categories.
About the MCB Design Award
The Design MCB Award has been held since 1986 by the Museu da Casa Brasileira, a cultural institution that celebrates 50 years in 2020. The award – the most traditional of the segment in the country – reveals talents and consecrates professionals and companies. The Prize is divided into two main moments: the Poster Contest and, next, the prizes for products and written works. Between May and July, MCB receives creations in the categories: Construction, Transport, Electronics, Lighting, Furniture, Textiles, Utensils and Written Works. The pieces are analyzed by two independent judging committees, one for the product categories and the other for theoretical works. Finally, the winners are chosen, divided between 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, and the honorable mentions, in addition to those selected who also make up the exhibition. As a result of the Design MCB Award, the Museum holds an exhibition with the winners and selected from each category of the edition, which will be on display for about two months.
