With a straw seat, this chair is a significant example of the Beranger style, so named because it was developed by the French cabinetmaker Julien Beranger, who lived in Recife in 1816 and had his work continued by his son Francisco, until 1857. Despite its strong influence European and mixing elements of Rococo and French Empire style, creates its own language by carving wood (usually rosewood) with ornamental motifs of Brazilian fauna and flora and the use of straw.
