On November 23, Saturday, from 10 am to 8 pm, the Museu da Casa Brasileira, an institution of the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo, simultaneously opened the exhibition of the 33rd Design MCB Award and the panel of Brazilian Design Pioneers – José Zanine Caldas. On the date, the book that celebrates the centenary of the designer (‘José Zanine Caldas’, Editora Olhares) and the magazine ArqXP, which includes the catalog of the prize exhibition, were also launched.
Representing this 33rd edition of the Award, 91 projects are exhibited between the Products and Written Works categories. The Product categories bring 64 pieces, 29 of which were awarded (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mentions) and another 35 selected by the jury to be part of the exhibition. In Written Papers, 27 works can be seen among the winners and selected, in the Published and Unpublished modalities.
The Poster Contest show, which discloses the winning piece and 45 other selected works, allows visitors to choose their favorite poster by popular vote. The result of this choice will be released in March 2020.
“The Design MCB Award, the most traditional of the segment in the country, reveals talents and consecrates professionals and companies, reinforcing the museum’s mission of promoting debate and reflection on contemporary production, both academic and commercial, in the field of design”, comments Miriam Lerner, general director of the Museu da Casa Brasileira.
This year, the award received 559 works that were judged by two independent commissions. Levi Girardi, designer graduated from FAAP-SP and founding partner of the design and innovation studio Questtonó, coordinated the evaluation committee in the product categories. Written Works was coordinated by Teresa Riccetti, professor and researcher in the design course at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie.
