The exhibition will present a portrait of the company’s pioneering manufacturing, whose trajectory permeates the country’s design, economic and social transformations.

Visitation from March 5th to June 05th, 2022

The 5th of March, Saturday, marks the beginning of the new exhibition at the Museu da Casa Brasileira (MCB), an institution of the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo, managed by Fundação Padre Anchieta. ‘Design e indústria – a história da tradicional botica Granado’ presents the history of the main events of the company’s 152 years. The curatorship is by the historians, Ana Maria Pereira de Almeida and Jacqueline de Araujo.

The public will be able to see more than 250 pieces that are part of the Granado collection and also understand the development of this industry and advertising in the context of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The tour begins with the origin of the brand, with its labels, packaging and prints from different times. The visitor is invited to travel back in time through iconic products, illustrious customer records, national and international decorations. At the end, you will be able to learn about the production and development of products and visit an interactive room about the perfumery universe.

For historians Ana Maria Pereira de Almeida and Jacqueline de Araujo, responsible for researching and preserving the Granado collection, the pieces form a dynamic set. “Each packaging, visual identity or new product is incorporated into the collection after its launch. And they constitute a source of research and inspiration for the development of new products and brand communication”, explains Jacqueline.

“This is MCB’s first exhibition in the management of Fundação Padre Anchieta. And it is a great pleasure to highlight the history of a company internationally recognized as synonymous with quality, solidity and sustainability”, says José Roberto Maluf, president of FPA.

“We offer a record of the beginnings of industrialization and the beginning of the establishment of design through the processes of production, sale and communication of products, which took place long before the formation of the field of design in Brazilian lands. This show is a walk through time, from the past to the present, recognizing products and getting to know details, through objects, graphic material and new productions”, comments Giancarlo Latorraca, technical director of MCB.

“Granado participated in several phases of the country’s history. It’s great to be able to celebrate this moment by sharing the wealth of our collection with the public”, says Sissi Freeman, Marketing Director Granado | Phoebo.

Beginning of a legacy
The pharmacy Granado Pharmácias, the most traditional cosmetics and medicines company in Brazil, was founded by the Portuguese José Antonio Coxito Granado, in the imperial capital of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), on the former Rua Direita – currently Rua Primeiro de Março, at the time the Rua busiest in town. Time passed and Granado remains with open doors in the same place. What draws attention is that it was with the manipulation of extracts from plants and herbs grown on the Granado site, that he won over the royal family of D. Pedro ll, who decided to decorate the apothecary with the title of Official Pharmacy of the Brazilian Imperial Family, this fact history took place through the cultivation of natural products.
