Conversation wheel | CASAS DO SERTÃO
On Friday, August 19, from 7pm to 9pm, Educativo MCB promotes a special Conversation Circle on the institution’s terrace. The activity is part of the Heritage Journey 2022 program. The Casas do Sertão project will be the theme for this evening of meetings, stories and conversations.
‘What objects in your kitchen contain the knowledge of the sertão?’ was the question that in 2019 led artist-educators Beth Ziani, Cibele Lucena, Flavia Mielnik and Mariana Galender to Morro da Garça, in Minas Gerais. They traveled with notebooks, inks, stamps, fabrics, threads, and with these materials they recorded and shared discoveries and lessons learned, both in visits to the homes of residents and in public workshops they held.
The meeting will be attended by the educators who were at the forefront of the project and will be a time to share and reflect on this expanded collection of memories, affective narratives and bond with the territory. To participate, just sign up below..
From the stories that live and resist behind the objects, a series of materialities was born: a collectively embroidered tablecloth, a set of stamps creating an iconographic family of objects from the country kitchen, a video and the systematization of the material collected in loco, resulting in in a collection of publications organized in 7 volumes dedicated to: pestle, lamp, drain, iron, broom, pan, fire/oven/stove.
This sensitive and poetic investigation of country houses and their objects was carried out in partnership with the Casa de Cultura do Sertão do Morro da Garça and the Casa Guimarães Rosa Museum in Cordisburgo; and was built in dialogue with the MCB Documentation Center (CEDOC), the Fichário do Equipamentos da Casa Brasileira, Usos e Costumes, conceived by historian Ernani Silva Bruno, poetic texts by different authors and musical themes.
