MUSIC AT MCB | Hércules Gomes
To honor the 170-year history of Chiquinha Gonzaga (1847-1935), the pianist and composer Hércules Gomes launches the album “No tempo da Chiquinha” at the Museu da Casa Brasileira, institution of the Culture Secretariat of the State of São Paulo, on the day June 17, Sunday, at 11:00 AM, with free admission.
In this project, to perform the compositions of Chiquinha with modern arrangements, but without losing the real essence of choro, Hércules Gomes counts on the participation of flutist Rodrigo Y Castro, singer Vanessa Moreno and guest pianist Daniel Grajew.
Currently, Hercules is considered one of the greatest Brazilian pianists for his technique and also for his trajectory. He began his studies as a self-taught at age 13, attended the Escola de Música do Espírito Santo (formerly EMES) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Popular Music at UNICAMP. In 2013, he released his first solo work entitled “Pianismo”. In addition, he performed at music festivals in Brazil and abroad.
Six years ago, on October 17, Chiquinha’s birthday, the “Brazilian Popular Music Day” was celebrated. The composer is considered a symbol: besides having fought in diverse social causes of the time, was the first woman to rule an orchestra in Brazil.
